_Board says move is to protect youths and uphold Islamic values_
The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies on mobile phones across all 44 local government areas of the state.
The directive, announced on Thursday by the board’s Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, is aimed at protecting public morality and upholding Islamic values.
According to Aminuddeen, the decision followed complaints that some phone operators were using mobile devices to circulate pornographic films and other video content considered offensive to Islamic teachings and Kano’s cultural values.
He said the rising consumption of indecent films among youths has been linked to increasing cases of moral decadence in the state.
The Hisbah official said personnel have been deployed to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across Kano.
He warned that anyone found violating the directive would face legal action in accordance with Kano State laws.
Aminuddeen also urged those affected by the ban to seek other lawful means of earning a living, adding that the measure is intended to shield young people from harmful content and preserve societal values.
The Kano State Hisbah Board is responsible for enforcing Sharia-related regulations in the state. Over the years, it has introduced several measures aimed at promoting Islamic values and restricting activities and content deemed contrary to the state’s religious and cultural norms.
