There was mild drama on Saturday in Abia State as a crowd chanted “Obi! Obi!” while the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, campaigned for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kalu had mounted the stage at the Item Okpi Festival in Bende Local Government Area and urged the crowd to support Tinubu.
“Tinubu will do more for Abia. Vote for Tinubu in 2027. He is the best for Nigeria,” Kalu said.
However, in a viral video from the event, the crowd began chanting in support of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as soon as Kalu mentioned Tinubu.
“Obi! Obi! Obi!” the crowd chanted.
The chanting grew louder as Kalu tried to calm the residents, with some standing up and others raising their hands.
The footage showed Kalu attempting to speak above the crowd, but the chanting continued unabated.
