Troops of 7 Division Garrison apprehend man accused of robbing residents while wearing military uniform in Shuwari area
Troops of the 7 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, have arrested a suspected impersonator for allegedly posing as a soldier to rob residents in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The suspect, identified as *Abdulazeez Mohammed*, was apprehended at about 2:00 p.m. on July 1, 2026, in the Shuwari General Area following credible intelligence on his activities.
Acting on the tip-off, troops of the 7 Division Garrison, supported by CJTF members, swiftly mobilized to the location and effected the arrest without incident.
Security sources said on Monday, July 6, that the suspect allegedly dressed in military camouflage to gain the trust of residents before breaking into homes and stealing mobile phones and other valuables in the Shuwari area.
The suspect is currently in military custody and is undergoing further interrogation to determine the full extent of his activities and whether he is linked to any wider criminal syndicate.
Security authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone suspected of unlawfully wearing military uniforms or engaging in suspicious activities.
They noted that impersonating members of the Armed Forces is a criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law.
The arrest comes as security agencies in Borno continue operations to rid Maiduguri and environs of criminal elements exploiting the security situation in the state.
