Tension gripped the Ojoo area of Ibadan on Wednesday following a violent clash that left one person dead and properties damaged.
According to residents and eyewitnesses, the violence began after a disagreement allegedly led to the fatal stabbing of a tricycle rider the previous night.
The victim was reportedly chased and stabbed to death by suspected scrap collectors in the area following an argument.
News of the killing sparked outrage. In the hours that followed, some youths in the community staged retaliatory attacks, demanding justice for the deceased. The unrest escalated to include gunshots and the destruction of property.
In response, security operatives have been deployed to Ojoo to restore calm. As of press time, many shops in the area remain closed while authorities work to de-escalate the situation and prevent further violence.
Police authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
