Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described his decision to pick Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as his running mate in 1999 as a mistake.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Obasanjo said that in hindsight, the partnership with Atiku during the civilian administration from 1999 to 2007 presented significant challenges.
“Looking back, the choice of Atiku as my running mate as civilian president was a mistake,” the former president stated.
The duo governed Nigeria for 8 years under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but their relationship later became strained due to political differences.
Obasanjo’s comment has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians revisiting the dynamics of the Obasanjo-Atiku administration.
