Relief and tears of joy filled the Government Office in Ibadan on Monday as rescued children and teachers from Oyo State arrived to be reunited with their families following days of uncertainty.
The group, who were reportedly abducted and later rescued in a coordinated security operation, were received by top government officials who assured them of adequate medical care, psychosocial support, and safety. Officials said the rescue was made possible through collaboration between state security agencies, local vigilantes, and community leaders.
Parents and guardians who had waited anxiously at the premises broke down in tears as they embraced their children and wards. Many described the reunion as “a second chance at life” and commended the Oyo State Government and security forces for their swift response.
In a brief address, a government representative said the administration remains committed to protecting schools and ensuring that no child is denied the right to learn in a safe environment. The rescued teachers were also applauded for their courage and dedication during the ordeal.
The children and teachers will undergo medical checks and counseling before returning home fully. Government officials added that security around schools across the state will be further strengthened to prevent a recurrence.
