Two suspected students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, have died and two others are hospitalised following the alleged consumption of nitrous oxide, commonly called “laughing gas”, in Isara-Remo, Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday. It said the incident happened on Tuesday, July 21, in the Oke-Ola Phase II area.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the command is investigating the case.
“The deceased have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy, while the survivors are receiving medical treatment,” he said.
Police said an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The command also urged the public to desist from drug abuse.
Nitrous oxide has medical applications, but authorities warn that inhaling it recreationally poses serious health risks.
