Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and security personnel on Thursday rescued a 55-year-old motorist after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD Railway Line.
The incident involved a train travelling inward Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT. The collision left the car badly mangled and written off, but the driver miraculously escaped unhurt with no casualty recorded.
In a swift inter-agency operation, LASTMA operatives and security personnel rescued the driver unhurt and immediately removed the wrecked vehicle from the railway track, allowing the train to resume its journey to Agege.
Despite clearing the track, vehicular movement around the PWD axis remained severely impeded, with traffic congestion affecting flow along the corridor.
The wrecked vehicle has been handed over to security personnel for further investigation into the cause of the collision.
Reacting, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the prompt and professional response of the operatives, noting that their vigilance and collaboration averted what could have been a catastrophic incident.
Bakare-Oki reiterated the need for strict adherence to railway safety regulations, urging motorists to exercise extreme caution at railway crossings and never attempt to cross when a train is approaching.
He stressed that LASTMA will continue to prioritize inter-agency collaboration and rapid emergency response to mitigate transport-related incidents, while appealing to road users to obey traffic and railway safety rules to preserve lives.
