…Polygamy advice goes viral after Ashaiman incident
A Ghanaian woman was rushed to hospital in Ashaiman last week after she fainted upon discovering that her husband had married a second wife without informing her, a social media account has reported.
The incident was shared in a Facebook post on Friday, June 26, 2026, by user Fati Aboni.
According to the post, the husband and his first wife were at home together on the day the second marriage ceremony took place elsewhere. The first wife reportedly learned about the new marriage later and collapsed.
“The second wife’s marriage happened last week. During the process, the man was home all day with his first wife enjoying happily as they usually do, yet the man couldn’t inform her,” Aboni wrote. “At least he could have used that as an opportunity to let his wife know… He kept quiet, and today the wife found out and felt unconscious so she was rushed to the hospital.”
Aboni said the first wife was on admission at the time of the post, while the second wife was “home enjoying her new marriage.”
While stating that “polygamy has become part of us and it has come to stay,” Aboni urged men to inform their first wives before taking another wife.
“We beg you, if you will add another woman as second wife, inform your first wife either a week to the program or, if you can’t tell her directly, inform the heads of the family… so they find a suitable way to put it to her,” she said.
She cautioned against allowing wives to hear of a new marriage “as rumors” after the ceremony.
Addressing Muslim women, Aboni said they should “put it in mind that Muslim men are polygamous.” She referenced a quote attributed to Alhaji Zaaki Sobolo: “One woman can never reach a man… unless a sick man.”
“With that mindset, you won’t feel much pain when it happens,” she added, while wishing the first wife a “speedy recovery” and congratulating the new wife.
