The officer credited with coordinating the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State is Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife.
Major General Nnebeife is the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, headquartered in Ibadan, Oyo State.
As GOC, he oversees all Nigerian Army operations across the Southwest, with direct command over about 9 Brigades under the division’s jurisdiction.
Following the May 15, 2026 attack, security sources said Major General Nnebeife mobilized troops, intelligence units, and sister agencies for a coordinated operation that led to the safe release of the remaining victims.
The rescue operation was carried out under his command and supervision, with troops combing identified locations in and around Oriire LGA before the captives were freed.
A career infantry officer, Major General Nnebeife has been recognized for his leadership in joint operations and civil-military relations in the Southwest region.
Military authorities have commended the professionalism of the troops involved, while the Oyo State Government and families of the victims have expressed gratitude for the safe return of the pupils and teachers.
Tragically, one teacher was confirmed to have died while in captivity before the rescue.
