Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, working with forest guards have rescued two children kidnapped in Kwara State.
The Kwara State Government announced on Thursday that the rescue operation took place in a forest between Oba Isin/Owa Onire in Isin and Ifelodun Local Government Areas.
The victims were identified as 16-year-old Fatima Azeez and her 5-year-old brother, Ibrahim.
According to government sources, the security team engaged the abductors during the operation. Two suspected kidnappers were killed while others reportedly escaped with injuries. Additional rescue operations are said to be ongoing.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, a single barrel gun, one fully-loaded magazine, nine empty magazines, a mini-solar charger, and food items.
The government said Thursday’s operation is part of ongoing multi-agency counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping efforts in the state.
The rescue comes days after an intelligence-led operation in Oriire, Oyo State, where pupils and teachers kidnapped by bandits were also freed.
