A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday destroyed 17 containerised shops at Sabo Market, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, a distress call was received at 12:42 am on *July 21, 2026. Firefighters from Ikorodu and Ijede Stations arrived at the scene 12 minutes later, at 12:54 am.
The fire had engulfed 17 lock-up shops out of a row of about 30. The affected shops were located on a 648-square-metre section of land within a 1,944-square-metre premises.
Officials said the quick intervention of firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to adjoining shops and other properties in the market.
“No casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident,” the agency confirmed in a statement signed by Margaret Adeseye, Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
