One person has been confirmed dead and seven others injured after a section of the new Gombe State House of Assembly complex collapsed on Friday, July 10, 2026.
The building was under construction when it caved in, trapping several workers beneath the rubble. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and carried out rescue operations to pull out the victims.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Gombe Operations Office, Ummanah Ahmed, said the injured were rushed to hospitals for treatment.
According to him, three of the victims were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, FTH, Gombe, while the remaining five were evacuated to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital.
Authorities said the cause of the collapse has not yet been determined. Investigations are ongoing to establish what led to the incident.
The Gombe State Government is expected to issue a full statement as inquiries continue.
